Saskatchewan invites 231 Entrepreneurs Who May Apply for Permanent Residence
On April 18, 2018, the Government of Saskatchewan conducted an Expression of Interest (EOI) draw which saw 231 entrepreneurs being invited to submit an application for provincial nomination.
The Entrepreneur Category is a popular stream in the province’s Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).
According to the SINP, “prospective immigrants will indicate their interest in operating a business and living in Saskatchewan by providing required information about their entrepreneurial experience, assets, and Business Establishment Plan (BEP), among other factors”, to be considered under the program.
To be eligible, entrepreneurs must meet the minimum net worth requirement of $500,000 CAD and be willing to invest a minimum $200,000 in rural Saskatchewan or $300,000 in the province’s two cities Regina or Saskatoon. Candidates are also required to prepare a Business Establishment Plan among other requirements, indicating the potential economic benefits their business will make in the province.
There is no minimum score for submitting an Expression of Interest, however, candidates’ EOIs are ranked based on their points assessments scored out of a 160 Points grid. In the current selection, candidates whose points were 90 and above were selected. There is no cost to submit an EOI profile and profiles remain active for 12 months.
Succesful candidates and their families are granted temporary work permits to carry on their business in the province. Once they have fulfilled the Business Performation Agreement obligations, they will then receive provincial nomination and can apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Next rounds of invitations are set for July and October of 2018.
