International Experience Canada (IEC) offers a unique opportunity for young individuals from participating countries to travel, live, and work in Canada on a temporary basis. Successful applicants through one of the IEC programs can obtain a Canadian work permit without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), making it easier to explore career opportunities in Canada.
IEC Programs
There are three main categories under the IEC:
- Working Holiday: This program allows participants to obtain an open work permit, enabling them to work for any employer in Canada while exploring the country.
- Young Professionals: This program is for young individuals who have a job offer in Canada that contributes to their professional development. Participants receive an employer-specific work permit, allowing them to work for a specific employer in Canada.
- International Co-op (Internship): This program is designed for students who need to complete a work placement or internship to fulfill part of their academic curriculum. Participants receive an employer-specific work permit for the duration of their placement.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the IEC programs, you must:
- Be a citizen of one of the participating countries.
- Meet the age requirements, which typically range from 18 to 35 years, depending on the country of origin.
- Have a valid passport for the duration of your stay in Canada.
- Meet the specific requirements of the IEC program you are applying for
Benefits of IEC
You may be eligible for an SOWP if:
- Work Without an LMIA: Participants can obtain a work permit without needing a Labour Market Impact Assessment, simplifying the process.
