The Atlantic Immigration Program is an employer-driven program where interested applicants must obtain a job offer from a designated employer under the program. With the offer of employment, the applicant may be able to apply for a work permit and permanent residence. An LMIA job offer is not required for this program.
The program was initially started as a pilot program in 2017 and due to the success of the program, was later made into a permanent program in 2022.
Employers under the program are designated by the government to hire foreign workers and must be located in one of the participating provinces such as New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island.
Two Eligible Categories
Under the Atlantic Immigration Program, these are the two eligible categories of applicants that can apply for the program:
- Foreign Workers: Skilled workers with the necessary qualifications and work experience relevant to the job offer in one of the participating provinces.
- International Graduates: Recent graduates from a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada who have a degree, diploma, or credential related to the job offer, and lived in one of the Atlantic provinces for at least 16 months during the last two years before graduating.
